Altough there has been some discussion on this board about how lucrative the business can be for some, I was shocked to hear from my therapist that she was making just 25 percent of the total fee (about $100). AND that a number of her customers were not tipping her at all!
She is from Asia and working here on a visa I am sure and can't bargain well on her salary. I think her boss is exploiting her but that is another story.
But about the tipping, that is just WRONG. PLEASE remember a lot these girls are working mainly for the tips and they really need them. Please tip generously.
I honestly think parlor onwers
in MN do not take that much from ladies as some would claim.
unless its arelene from stress reduction, she's greedy .
The usual going rate is and should be for unlicensed therapist with minimal experience
meaning 2yrs or less is 60/40 ( in owners favor) & for licensed with experience is and should be at least 50/50
Anyone working for less than that needs to know their rights and/or find a better job. They're out there & others would be happy to have them...
18- 20% tip is the standard for complimentary healthcare /service / hospitality industry .

You don't know that for sure may be she's just pulling your legs so you tips her more.
With the tipping issue if a guy getting a good massage even W/O a HEHe'll tip at lease $20-$40. A bad massage W/O HE Probably no tips. A good massage and a HE Probably $50 and up..

Thanks for weighing in here. Couple reasons why I believe her. Seen her many times, she has never once asked for a tip, and said she never does. She said even when she knows the guy won't tip (repeat customer), she still does a good job. She's trying really hard here.
Second, her massage skills are excellent and there should be no excuse for a zero tip. I say $20 is baseline for just a decent hour massage.
I guess this is just one example, but I have heard from other (foreign) therapists about getting stiffed even after providing HE....just trying to get everyone to think about what they are doing here. I think the foreign ladies have a hard time getting a fair deal.
For me, as with any service, mainstream or not, it depends on the quality of the service -- the better the service, the better the tip, the worse the service (or even just the attitude), the less likely a tip.
It is what it is, you can't solve a problem is not yours. There are many in same situation or worse. I personally ran into an Asian girl told me the Same but you know they probably have more money than you because they have no bills to pay ,I only tip for how she served me..
