Prostitute accused in extortion scheme arrested

The alleged prostitute accused of being part of an extortion scheme that resulted in a Bloomington "john" killing himself last month has been arrested and was in custody Thursday night at the Hennepin County jail.

Authorities say Shannon Gura, 26, of Huntsville, Ala., videotaped herself having sex with the 57-year-old man and had been working with an alleged pimp, Rickey Pouncil, to blackmail the victim for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The man had been paying to keep the extortionists from revealing explicit photographs. But on May 10, he shot and killed himself in the Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge, leaving behind a note saying, "I am being extorted over $500,000. Best for my family and friends."

According to a search warrant made public last week, Christina Artac, a woman who was dating Pouncil, told police that Gura had been collecting the extortion money from the victim, but had yet to share any proceeds with Pouncil.

Gura was taken into custody Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She is scheduled to appear in district court next Thursday, jail records show.

Sad story, but getting caught certainly isn't worth killing yourself because of embarrassment...If he was being taken care of at home just maybe he wouldn't have been seeking satisfaction from a backpage or CL whore...Thats why I love AMPS...no drama...

Innergame, sorry, man, but assuming he wasn't "being taken care of at home" is a pretty presumptuous statement, considering we don't know this guy and his story. We don't know if he had some sort of sexual addiction or if he didn't care if he stepped out on his wife or what was going on with him. There might've been a lot more going on in his head and in his life if he decided suicide was the way out.

Nicely said Wanderer. "Being taken care of at home" has nothing to do with what happened here. Hell, I probably get taken care of at home better than most guys I know...

Have to admit, though, the note sounds a little weird. Sure, it's not like I've ever seen a real suicide note, but if that really was all the guy wrote, it just sounds so...laid back and cordial, like it's no big deal. "I went bowling -- dinner's in the fridge." "I ran off with the kids' nanny. Your sister said she'd meet you at the movies." "I'm blowing my head off. Have a nice day." Is there really that sort of a disconnect when a person's about to off himself?

suicide notes are typically always positive or all negative rarely are they combined.. either way its very sad he felt he had no other option that do do such an extreme thing.

Maybe...but still a sad story...and after a 20 year career of AMPing....there is very little drama with the foreign born Asians...I have been lucky enough to date pretty much any AMP woman I have see more then once or twice. I have run into only 1 wacko...an adopted Korean woman who use to work for Rebbecca Rand in the early 90's...
None of them tried to extort me...2 of them wanted to get married... Maybe that is a form of extortion...
