Any idea why these places suggest you come 30 minutes before close, for example if they close at 10pm they suggest you come at 9:30. Is this because they will do more for you or just a dead time for them?

Good quetion, don't know, but I always prefer first thing out of the blocks in the morning, or when it slows down after lunch. I hate it when it is crowded and busy, too distracting for me

I find that it is better to go before the lunch crowd, because the ladies are not as tired and not eating lunch after the lunch crowd.

If you go 30 min. before closing, I always got a rushed job. It is because the ladies would like to close shop and leave by 10.
